Great food , waited for a table , but it was so worth it ! It is delicious! Ask for the chicken broth !!

We were in the neighborhood of Mala Town and my wife saw how crowded and busy this place was! We pivoted from Din Ding and decided to try this place out. The service was friendly and helpful! Nice concept...like Mongolian Bbq-style but with Mala broth and hotpot ingredients. $14.99/lb. You pick & select your own ingredients, broth flavor like Beef Bone Broth Base, Sichuan Spicy Soup Base, Tom Yum Soup Base, Chicken Broth Base, OR Sweet & Sour Tomato Flavored Broth. Choice between, mild, medium spicy, etc. Afterwards, yoy pay, and take your order number. They will cook it in the kitchen and bring it outnto your table. Complimentary sauce bar, chopped green onions, cilantro, and lemon water or sweetened green tea. My wife ordered the Beef Bone Broth. Note: Even mild was too spicy for her. Unfortunately, I couldn't switch with her as I ordered the Tom Yum broth. She had to dip her stuff into hot water to wash off some of the spice. Regardless, my wife and I both enjoyed our malatangs. We will be back. Though, we probably will check out their newer location in Milpitas.

You pick your own ingredients and soup base and it is cooked for you. My most favorite Malatang style restaurant in the bay area. I love that the broth is flavorful yet not salty or does not contain msg. Service was very fast. And the tables are clean very quickly. Ambiance was casual yet very clean. Green tea and oranges were also included. Will definitely come again and cannot wait for the one to be open in Dublin, in Pacific Pearl.

DIY! Similar experience to Tang Bar and YGF Malatang. You build your own bowl and pay based on the weight of your bowl when you get to the register. Mala Town has a decently large selection of meats, seafood, noodles, and other toppings for you to choose from as well as several different soup bases. Overall pleasant experience and good food!

Nice food here! Delicious flavors. 5 for selections. I chose the non spicy one. Recommend to come and try it!

I love this place! Everyone I bring likes it as well! Food: The selection of food is great! The meat cuts are good and they have a wide variety. I love getting the beef brine broth mild and adding my own spice level from the sauce bar. Service: You pick your food, pay, and they cook it. It's so simple and great for introverts who don't want to interact with others! If you're a lover of hot pot and soup things, you have to give this place a try!

Amazing food! Great service and selection of ingredients they make your food fast and delicious

My favorite malatang hot pot spot in the East Bay. Staff is friendly and the place is BUSY. They are open during lunch and then a break before dinner, so check their hours before coming. This is a self-service hot pot that you select and choice how much and what protein, veggies, and add ons you'd like to include. IT does get weighed and you pay for your items by the pound so choose wisely. There is even a sauce bar for you to do all the things. I have been here multiple times and have enjoyed it every time. Well worth the price for quality and taste!

Mala Town can get pretty busy during dining hours especially weekend nights, do yourself a favor and join Yelp waitlist ahead of time! I have been to Mala Town for a few times already, so far I have tried their Signature beef broth, tom yum and Sichuan Mala soup base. My favorite so far would be the signature beef broth, the savory flavor is strong and it's not too spicy (I believe you can make a special request when you checkout). You would be charged by the weight of food you picked at the self service counter, I would strongly suggest any first timer take a quick tour to see all the food they offer, the food all looks fresh and you would be tempted to pick a lot at the beginning meat section, but they offer a lot of veggie options too.

Came on a Saturday night a couple weeks ago and I wasn't disappointed! I really hope Mala Town is here to stay, since there's nothing really like it nearby in the East Bay. Concept: Build-your-own hot pot, but it's NOT like tasty pot, so they don't serve it on an open flame. You sign in on the tablet near the door, they call you up, and you can put your own ingredients in a giant bowl and then choose your broth. Cost is $14.99/lb. I got the tom yum broth. They weigh your bowl at the end. I accidentally went extremely overboard on my first time here, so mine ended up being like 2.67 lbs, and I ate leftovers for like 2-3 meals after that lol. Pros: - really solid ingredients to choose from, lots of good meat, noodles, and veggies to choose from. My favorite are the thick single strip noodles, they have a funky texture but I'm a fan. Also have a lot of fish balls to choose from. - Self-serve green tea, water, and sauce station. The green tea is super refreshing and a great pair with the hot pot. - I really liked the tom yum broth! - Efficient - you sit down right after you order and they bring your food to pretty quickly based on the table position in the restaurant. - Lets you take home your leftovers! I had almost a full container that I ate for multiple meals after. Cons: - Not great for parties of more than 4, there might be 1-2 tables that fit a party of 6, but you might have to wait. - Pretty busy on a weekend evening, we were a party of 2 so we didn't have to wait long, but the plaza is also really busy so parking can be hit or miss. - Do not let the large bowl they give you fool you! I feel like this is a super common mistake because you're actually getting a lot more food than you think. Vibes: casual, but not bad for a casual first date vibe. Lots of kids and small families on Saturday night. Despite the tendency to over-add ingredients, I definitely will be back since I love this concept!
